2002,2003,2004 RULES of ROBOTRACE JUNIOR This contest is for elementary and junior high-school grades. Contestants will race the robotsthat they themselves have built. 1. The race course (refer to the diagram) The course is a racing circuit marked out by black vinyl tape on top of a white surface. The circuit consists of straight sections and curves. The course has a gate to indicate the start and goal. 2. The race (1) The robot shall decide by itself the direction in which it shall run. This means that between the time the robot leave the start until it arrives at the goal, a contestant shall not touch their robot or operate it by remote control. (2) The length, width and height of a robot shall be no larger than 20 cm. (3) A robot's lap times will be measured, and the shortest one will be recorded. (4) The race shall last for 3 minutes, during which time a robot may make up to 3 laps; however the race will end once the robot makes 2 complete laps. (5) Contestants shall stop their robots once each lap; at which time they may touch their robot. (6) If a robot runs completely off the black line, the robot shall retire from that lap. (7) Other matters shall be subject to the guidance of the contest committee.
